Boycott Scotland and the United Kingdom

Letters of Support

We have received literally hundreds and hundreds of letters of support. The following is a sampling. Some messages have been abridged due to length. Names have been abbreviated to protect the privacy of the authors.

"Hello, As someone who lives in Scotland I fully support your call for a boycott of Scottish products and hope you succeed in shaming the people who would release a terrorist who showed no compassion to the 270 people he murdered. Once again good luck in your campaign." N. J. W.

"To Whom It May Concern, As a British subject living in the United States, I whole-heartedly support your boycott. I am both outraged and disgusted by the decision to free Al-Megrahi. Quite simply, if carnage and mass murder on the scale of Lockerbie does not merit punishment, what crime does? This is a very bad day for British justice and the West in general. What signal does this send to the bombers and Islamist Fascists fighting coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq? My thoughts go out today to the families of those murdered by Al-Megrahi and the Libyan Government. God bless." S. C.

"Hello, I am a former Pan Am employee from San Francisco. Thank you for starting this website. It would be great if we could gather enough support to make a boycott of all goods and travel to the UK/Scotland effective. Long live the memory of Pan Am." B. W.

"Friends, As a UK expat living in Australia, you have my deepest sympathies for this disgusting act of political correctness acted out in the name of the people of Scotland and lesser so the entire United Kingdom. A life sentence should mean life, that after all is the point that the guilty sentenced will end out their days in prison. This pathetic episode only serves to remind all that is wrong with the UK state, namely political correctness and a complete lack of balls ffrom its leaders not to upset minorities, but no qualms upsetting anyone who is white, be they European, American, etc. Respect for the law, the countries, and peoples of the United Kingdom has today been further reduced and no doubt boyed further the confidence of terroists, both home grown and international." L.

"I live in Lexington, KY and I am of Scots heritage and could not be sadder for us or from the country of ancestors. Thank you for helping us take a stand and make a point." T. C.

"I couldn't believe the news today. I can absolutely and positively guarantee that I will never set foot on Scottish soil again. I have been to Ireland 5 times in recent years, and I will spend my tourism dollars there.....not in a country whose government claims to have compassion for terrorists. Where was the compassion for the victim's families today? And let's not forget that 11 Scottish nationals died on that tragic day as well. Where was the compassion for them? What a joke. I hope the S.O.B. goes home to Libya and dies a horrible death. He deserves it. He should have been publicly executed for his murder of 270 innocent and unarmed people. That's what he would have got if he had bombed a Libyan jetliner. Instead of being hung in a public square in downtown Glasgow, he goes home to a hero's welcome. We should be planning to bomb the entire country of Libya as we write this. But we won't, because we are "a compassionate people." No compassion was shown to the families of those who lost their lives that day. And the pain goes on. For this, I can promise that I will never set foot in Scotland again, and I will not buy any product, including BP gas, from the United Kingdom....ever. No compassion for the victims.......the Scottish government should be ashamed of themselves. They freed a mass murderer who went home to a hero's welcome. How sick is that." S. H.

"Friday morning I will sell my BP stock and place the BP Gas Stations in the same category as Citgo - i.e. no go." - W. A.

"I am a Brit living in America and I think the decision to release Abdel Baset al-Megrahi is wrong. Normally I am a very compassionate person but the horror of the bombing of Pan Am 103 should never have been treated as a normal background to display compassion to one of the perpetrators. It is a betrayal of the victim's families and I fully support your efforts to boycott Scotland for this unbelievable decision." - P. S.

"The terroist should have been left to die in the cell. Life means life - cancer or no cancer. Guilty means guilty. Life should be life. The British justice system is on its knees. I envy the system in the USA with harsher terms." - C. C.

"Rather than boycotting UK goods, how about campaign to ban Mr. MacAskill, the Scottish Justice Minister from ever entering the US for conduct detrimental to US interests. His total lack of compassion towards the victims and their families must not go unpunished." - W. K.

"As a born and bred Scot, I can only express my anger, outrage and disgust at the release of al-Megrahi by Ghaddafi's poodle, MacAskill." - P. K.

"I think it is wrong that Abdel Baset al-Megrahi has been freed. It is extremely offensive to the familiy members of the victims. It is wrong and unjust. The man should be in jail right now and I have zero compassion for him. I plan on boycotting as many Scottish services as I can and I will no longer be using B.P. gas stations. Although I do have to travel to the U.K. to visit relatives, I will be using a U.S. airline and I will be sure to avoid any Scottish based services while I am there. I also plan on writing a letter to the governments of Scotland and the U.K. to express my dissapointment and outrage in their decision to release a terrorist who killed hundreds of innocent people." - N. G.

"Dear Sir, if you carried out a poll today on this subject I am sure that you would find that the majority of the British people (Anglo Saxons) are appalled by the release of Megrahi and the pompous, self righteous statement of Kenny MacAskill. Although the decision was communicated by the "Scottish Administration", be in no doubt that it was inspired by Gordon Brown and his Scottish Raj in London. Here in Britain we are mostly, utterly exhausted by a government that does not care how much it lies to the people so long as it achieves its Godless, amoral, pointless political goals. I am sorry to say that such a gutless decision is only to be expected from a government that sends its soldiers to fight its war in Afghanistan , refers to the war as a "conflict" starving its troops of the equipment required to fight such a war - preferring to spend the money of the British people on ensuring that the lives of Megrahi and all the other scum that ebb and flow from our shores are made as comfortable as possible. After all, they will need their votes at the next election. As an Englishman, I can only say sorry for what our government has done." - J. W.

"Dear Sir, as an Englishman I am totally horrified by this appalling decision made by the Scottish Justice Minister. For those of us who remember those horrific scenes from Lockerbie, it was an unbelievably naive decision to reach. I think David Cameron, leader of the Conservative Party summed it up when he commented, 'He showed no compassion to them, they weren’t allowed to go home and die with their relatives in their own bed. This is a bad decision.' There are a large number of people here who totally agree with that sentiment. Please do not boycott the rest of the UK for a decision made purely in Scotland, the people of England, Wales and Norther Ireland had no say what so ever in this decision, and I would say the majority are as shocked by what has occurred as people in the United States. My thoughts are with those everywhere who suffered loss." - S. R.

"I am British but not Scottish and I fully support you - it's disgusting that he has been allowed home. He should have stayed in Prison and with no medical intervention." - P. E.

"Dear Sir, I don't usually get personally involved in such matters, but the disgraceful decision by the Scottish Government yesterday has left me embarrassed and sickened, particularly as it was based upon future oil and trade agreements with a country known for its terrorist links. I am English, not British! I have been a police officer for 21 years now, and it is this very country, Libya, that was responsible for the murder of a British police officer outside of their embassy in London back in 1984. We have it rammed down our throats about security checks and security levels, and now all the hard work done by a multitude of international law agencies has been undone! What message are we sending to the rest of the world. I was planning to spend a holiday in Scotland next year, as we do every two years. This will definately not be the case now! You have the support of the silent majority in this country, unfortunately the way this country has been run for 12 years the silent majority have no say here. I wish you well with your campaign." - S. M.

"I support your campaign to boycott Scotland and UK interests and I am ashamed of the release of Megrahi and support you in protecting the memories of the victims amd families of Pan Am flight 103. I am convinced that MacAskill is mentally ill."
- W. H

"Dear Sirs, my son had a ticket for that flight but fortunately for us his Manager decided to go in his place. I have written to the fool who released the murder and informed him that my family and I will never have another holiday in Scotland .We will not knowingly ever buy anything made in Scotland and hope that the sales of Jack Daniels shows a sharp increase. As for Andy Murray we have always wanted him to lose as his sportsmanship is an affront to all who play sport. We in England feel ashamed that Scotland have shown such stupidity. I for one would be quite happy to float them off. If Scotland was independent then we in England would not have suffered from having Brown, Wilson or Atllee as our Prime Ministers. Only Tony Blair would have had one 5 year term as PM and that was too long! We are ashamed and can only send to the families our heartfelt sorry for the hurt they must be feeling."
- P. M.

"As a proud Englishman I support your sentiments fully and think that a disgusting act has taken place by a Scottish government that has no moral backbone to stand up for what is right. I hope the American people see this as a failing of the Scottish government and not the overwhelming majority people of the UK who are as disgusted as people in the US are." - R. S.

"Dear Sirs, thank you for putting up your website! We of the civilized world can never forgive the brain-dead Scottish administration for rewarding totalitarian terrorists the world over by it's action (releasing the terrorist bomber/mass murderer) today. Our family will never buy any Scottish or English products or services until both of these weakling governments are overthrown by the people of Britain. Libya's giant crowds show their contempt for Scotland, Britain and America. No more Brit/Scottish movies/rentals, books, no Brit cars, no Glenfiddich, no tourism, no beer/ale, no BBC, no anything from Britain. Thank you again." - M. G.

"Hi, I wanted to pass a message of support and let you know how the ordinary Scottish people are feeling this weekend. Please know that we are utterly ashamed at our Governments actions and feel complete sympathy for the families of the victims having to go through further emotional upheaval with the release of their loved ones evil killer. Please be aware that McAskill et al did not act in our name. I listened to his full speech at work with a very heavy heart and stomach and was completely floored when he announced his awful decision. It is small comfort, but have assurances that the Scottish people will show this at the next General Election. They will never be voted in to act in our name again. You cant imagine how ashamed we were to see the Scottish flag being waved as this monster received his heroes welcome in Libya. I've pass on my revulsion to McAskill, Salmond and Brown via e-mail. I cant say that I'm pleased with the ethos of Boycott Scotland as the Scottish people en-masse disagree with the release, but I cant say I blame you guys one bit. I KNOW that had 250 Scots been killed on your grounds, justice would have been sought and carried out by our American cousins and the memories of the lost respected. Please accept our sincere and heartfelt apologies. I hope that the once warm, friendly relationship the Scots and Americans had can be restored. Take care." - L. B.

"May I point out to you that the vast majority of the population in Scotland are as bewildered at the decision by Kenny McAskill to free this terrorist. He does NOT free this murderer in our name and hopefully, at the next election, the people of Scotland vote this clown out of government. This was a sad decision and can only harm the reputation of the Scottish legal system worldwide. This terrorist should have died in prison with the same compassion that he showed to his victims – NONE! A concerned and disillusioned Scot," D.

"I am very sympathetic to the cause of the victims of Lockerbie. My suggestion is that travel to any part of the United Kingdom should be avoided. For those who want to see countryside similar to Scotland's -- travel in rural Pennsylvania. The beautiful rolling hillls are similar to the Scottish rural area. There are cities in the US that are as interesting as Edinborough, too." - S. S.

"I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to put this website together. The Scottish and British decision to release Mr. Megrahi is an absolute outrage. It is difficult to find appropriate words to express how offensive and repulsive the images of his homecoming were to me. While I do think that there is merit to the contention that his trial was rife with missteps by both investigators and prosecutors, Mr. Megrahi's guilt remains apparent. His release should never have been an option and there must be peaceful, economic repercussions for both Scotland and United Kingdom to deter this type of judicial miscarriage occurring again. That being said I fully pledge my support and participation to your boycott. I will be forwarding a hyperlink to your website to my friends and family to garner additional momentum for this worthy cause. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help." - E. C.

"Don't buy Scotch Whisky, thats where the government really makes the money. I'm Scottish and I am totally appalled by that decision, coming from Kilmarnock, a couple of minutes later and Pan Am 103 could have been over me." - C. M.

"I have written to Scotland's Justice Minister Mr. MacAskill to express my outrage with his decision to free the perpetrator of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 The email is dated August 20th 2009. I am a Scot born and educated, and I am deeply troubled that Mr.MacAskill's decision has brought such grief and a sense of betrayal to the friends and families of those lost that terrible night. I was in Scotland that night not far from the site of hell on earth. I think what is most troubling is Mr. MacAskill stated that protesting his decision equaled vigilantism, and that Scotland ... my country ... was compassionate whereas the U.S. was not. I vehemently object to that caricature of the U.S. I shed tears that such a rupture has occurred between our two countries. But I agree that it is democracy to register protest by boycotts. I do keep thinking of King David when he was betrayed by his own son Abasalom and had too take the field against him.His charge to his General was 'deal gently with the young man Absalom for my sake'. The people of Scotland are a victim of proud rebels who desire nothing more than the break up of our United Kingdom, and the overthrow of our Queen. If it be possible my friend deal gently with the people of Scotland. They ultimately will suffer from any boycott. But if it does come to that,I will support it." - F. B.

"I am a British citizen (English as opposed to Scottish) and in total support of your sentiments. I am outraged by the release and embarrassed to be associated with Scotland. This was utterly insensitive to the victims of the atrocity. The decision to release al Megrahi smacks of incompetence and short-sightedness. I am also outraged by the silence of my own government, which I could never stand anyway. They are spineless." - R. T.

"Thank you for providing a vehicle for citizens of the United States to voice their extreme disapproval of the actions of Scotland with regard to their reckless and thoughtless release of a mass murderer and international criminal despite the pleas and requests of the United States government. A Democrat and believer in the rebirth of the U.S.A." - H. B.

"For the first time in 57 years I am ashamed to be a Scot! Please remember the SNP government does not represent all Scots." - B. R.

"I as a Scot would like to express my disgust at the recent actions of our Justice Secretary. As I am sure your are aware, there are many, many people who feel the same as I do. Please do not think all of Scotland’s people agree with what has been done. He should not have been released. I have also copied you my email to Mr MacAskill and Alex Salmond:

“Mr MacAskill, I am compelled to write to you regarding your recent action of releasing a convicted mass murderer. As a Christian and a passionate Scot, I fully understand the need for compassion. However, your action of compassion in freeing a legally convicted mass murderer, is one which makes me ashamed to be Scottish. Had this man shown some remorse or guilt for his crime, perhaps there may have been a case for the action you took. This man expressed none of those qualities. Your action of compassion totally ignores the feelings of the relatives of the victims of Pan Am 103, and indeed the relatives and survivors of Lockerbie. Many people spent countless time both abroad and here in Scotland, in bringing to justice the perpetrator of that heinous crime. I can now only assume that you have no empathy whatsoever with those relatives, nor thanks for those who gave their time and effort, nor credence to the lawful conviction and sentencing of this murderer. Justice has NOT been served in this case and you should be ashamed of the action which you took. I know I am not alone in Scotland, in expressing my disgust at this action, indeed I have talked with many of my friends and I have yet to find one who agrees with you. You, as Justice Secretary of our nation, and Alex Salmond as First Minister for supporting you, have brought shame on our nation, Scotland, for your actions. Yes you may be remembered as a politician, but you will go down in history as 'The man who freed the Lockerbie Bomber !' I, and many of my friends will remember you, even though we may not be in your constituency, when it comes to election time for the Scottish Parliament.”

- S. T.

"As a Yorkshireman - living and working in Scotland, I can tell you that the main issue of talk is that despicable release of the mass-murderer ... to such an extent that many Scots do feel that they will receive a backlash of many Americans deciding not to travel to Scotland for some considerable time. What this so-called 'Justice' minister of the Scottish Government has done is brought Scotland into condemnation of many throughout the world ... as well as thousands in Scotland itself ... Thus it seems that Government Leaders such as British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond for starters have with-held important information of the deal that most certainly been struck many weeks prior to the Justice Minister's announcement and the Mass-Murderer's pre-arranged departure and subsequent hero's welcome in Libya, where the world would have never seen so many Scottish Flags for many a century ... Finally, 270 souls perished for what, monetary greed, to earn fast bucks, to assist Islamic terrorists, to aide and abet them ... I can only hope that this situation will hang heavily in the hearts and brains of all the British people when our General Election comes around in 2010, and also with the people in Scotland when the next Scottish Elections for the Scottish Parliament come around and thus collectively those responsible for this heinious release will never be able to talk office at either Westminster or Holyrood. Justice & Democracy is far more important." - M. T.

"I poured out my Chivas and will never buy another drop or anything else produced in that nation. I am very strongly encouraging the soldiers under my command, my friends and extended family to take the same action. Scotland is dead to me." - B. T.

"Someone needs to say sorry in Scotland to the families. I dont really need to say anymore but someone from the UK and specifically Scotland needs to apologise to all the families for a terrible mistake." - S. L.

"Boycott both Scotland and the UK. Buy nothing made from either country. Cancel any trips to either country. Write your Congressman, Senator, Mayor, Governor and anyone else in federal or local politics you have access to. Refuse to do business with any store that continues to sell products from either country. Send faxes and emails to both countries members of parliament stating your continued displeasure with this decision and your refusal to do business with any company selling their countries products." - R. S.

"Hi, we live in England and a few facts you should know about Scotland and Brown's UK in general. Sharia law is practised all over the UK with the express permission of Gordon Brown and his Labour Party in order to get the mass Muslim vote. Islamification of the UK is so far down the road there is no going back. While our brave soldiers are fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, Sharia law is allowed and practised in EVERY city within the UK. Soldiers return from Afghanistan, the police allow Muslims to demonstrate against them. This is a fact, if we object we are deemed racists and sent to prison. We are living in a police state and feel awful about the release of this mass murderer but we are helpless to do anything bar immigrate which many of us are doing. We are with you and are deeply angered and saddened at this decision but are unable to do anything." - A. B.

"Shame on the Scots. Scotland has slowly by design destroyed England. They send no good for nothing politicians over the last 12 years to Westminster to govern and suck the country dry. Then recently ruined England's relationship with its true friend the US. They have always been perceived as the terrorists friend, active in boycotting the only democracy in the Middle East, Israel. Amazing how it will come back on them. The likes of Brown, Galloway and others should go back north of the border, apparently I hear they are not wanted there either. Well at least there is always Iran, Syria or North Korea for Galloway." - R.

"I am ashamed to be British today. Most clear thinking British people are ashamed at what the Marxists amongst us have done. Blair, Brown, etc. are all Marxists under the umbrella of the Labour Party and we have had to live with this rubbish for years. God help us." - E. F.

"I feel I would like to express my disgust with the decision of MacAskill to release Megrahi on compassionate grounds. This man was found guilty of a heinous crime, and I feel that compassion should only come into play if the guilty party apologises for what they have done. Megrahi failed to do this. Even then he should have spent his last weeks or months in his prison cell. MacAskill for his part, is a liberal minded type as are the SNP in general, therefore always going to play into the hands of the terrorists. I am a 57 year old Scotsman who visits the US every year, sometimes twice a year, and I truly adore the country and its people. I fly the Stars and Stripes alongside the Saltire when I come to the US. But after i witnessed the flying of the Saltire at the Megrahi homecoming, I will never again unfurl our flag in America. Because of the abhorrent decision of MacAskill, I am ashamed of my country and the damage he has caused to it, and I can understand your rage against our government in Scotland, and the Labour government in the UK in general. This is a beautiful country which will take a long time to recover from this furore." - L. C.

"This is a sad day. As a Scot, I am ashamed and embarassed by the release of Magrahi. It sends out a 'soft on terror' message that is wholly unacceptable in today's world, where the unseen terrorist is the enemy of all who believe in freedom and justice. You should be aware that the whisky industry in Scotland relies on about 15% of its business from the USA, so if you are looking to boycott a wholly Scottish product, that raises millions in revenue for the UK government then this is it. There are, after all, many other whiskies and whiskeys that will taste much better after this travesty." - P.

"As a British citizen I would like to say at this moment and for some time now how I am ashamed to call myself British. My deepest sympathy lies with the families of the victims of the Lockerbie bomber. We as a people have no say as to how our greedy politicians behave so please don't tar us all with the same brush. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence can see that a deal was made with Libya and the UK concerning this matter, and Gordan Brown and the rest of his cronies should hang their heads in shame. Once again my condolences to all the victims and families." - S. A.

"As a UK citizen if Irish descent, with an American partner and many American relatives, I wanted to let you know that I support your campaign to boycott Scotland, and the promotion of Ireland as an alternative holiday destination (and whisky supplier!) The SNP are anti-English, anti-American socialists with a long history of defending or excusing regimes with which have opposed the US and the UK. Having said that, there is no level the British government, steered by its pro-Arab, anti-Israeli Foreign Office, will not stoop to to further trade ties with anyone despotic third world regime who will pay us." - S. M.

"With the 2010 Open set to return to St. Andrews, a forceful statement by the R&A and the PGA of America condemning this action is certainly in order. Otherwise, those who would patronize this event should vote with their feet and not attend."
- S. R.

"I would like to express my disgust at this decision by a govt of Scotland that I voted for on the basis of law and order. I am an ex-Marine commando who has fought alongside American and other coalition troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I feel that it was right that this scum should have died in prison with the same compassion shown by him to the 270 victims of Pan Am flight 103 and Lockerbie. He was given a fair trial under Scots law in a neutral country (Holland), found Guilty and sentenced and thats where it should have ended with him serving the full tarriff. I am also sure that you are aware that most of the Scottish people were and are disgusted by this decision. I never thought for one moment that I would be ashamed of Scotland but I am today for a terrible decision made by our joke of a justice minister." - A. S.

"Like most fair and decent people around the world i was shocked and sickened by the decision to release Megrahi, simply because he was dying. I thought a life sentence was meant to mean prison until dead. Obviously not. I have not doubt that the world sees this as a cheap political trade off to boost British intrests in the region. Is it any coincidence that the un elected Lord of deception and dark deeds Mandelson is seen with Gadaffi junior? I am tuely ashamed of being British. This disgusting Scottish parliament and Scottish prime minister in 10 Downing Street has proved yet again they are morally bankrupt. They used to a time where Bistish justice ment something. I am affraid since 1997 that has been erroded by this peddlers of spin and deceit. Thank God these people will be gone from office next year, sadly their legacy of lies will tarnish our country for much longer." - N. C.

"Please, please believe me when I tell you that many Scots are completely disgusted at the actions of politicians, in Scotland and London. As one who has never voted either Labour or Scottish Nationalist, I hope that there will be a vote of 'no confidence' in Edinburgh and this will give the Scottish voters a chance to let them see how we really feel. One of the SNP's loudest supporters is Sean Connery. He has become very quiet recently. As he is happy to promote all things Scottish, perhaps he could explain how our Country has been reduced to an easy target for woolly thinking, bleeding heart liberals. Kenny MacAskill was once arrested for drunken behaviour at an English / Scottish football match. How he was ever seen as being a fit and proper person to become a 'Justice' Minister is beyond comprehension." - A. R.

"As a Scottish citizen living in Scotland, I am appalled at the release of the terrorist Abdel Baset al-Megrahi on compassionate grounds. The original decision to prosecute in Scotland was taken to appease the Libyan Government, he murdered mostly United States citizens by downing a Pan American airliner, he should therefore have faced prosecution in the United States. Learn this lesson well, never again allow a mass murdering monster like this escape justice by letting them be prosecuted outside of US jurisdiction. Abdel Baset al-Megrahi showed no compassion when he planned and executed the destruction of Pan American Flight103, he showed no remorse through his trial or subsequent release. The decision of the Scottish and British governments to go ahead with the release is unconscionable and the deafening silence from Gordon Brown and his abject failure to comment is insulting to the memory of the dead. I fully understand the wish of US citizens to boycott all purchases of Scottish goods and services until the families receive a formal apology from both Governments. I have no mandate to apologise on behalf of Scotland, but I apologise on behalf of myself and my family, I am deeply ashamed that my Government have insulted the memory of so many dead. I am so very sorry." - C. M.

"I write to you to say … I am embarrassed of my Scottish heritage. My parents were both born and raised in Scotland and 80% of my relatives are still living in Scotland and England. I live in New York and I am a survivor of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center . I was working in the North Tower on that horrible day. That the Scottish government can find ANY compassion for someone who blew inncocent peoples lives out of the sky is beyond me. I have been a US citizen for just 1 year after living in NY for 18 years. I join my fellow Americans and say I will most definitely cancel the trip I had planned to travel to Scotland to introduce my children to their heritage Unfortunately the 'brave Scots' are no longer brave in my heart and I will never step foot in the country again." - A. G.
